The green beans are blanched until just turning tender but still have a crisp texture. They are then tossed in a peanut butter based sauce to make a quick cold salad. It is definitely a simple dish that I love adding to my <a href=\"https:\/\/omnivorescookbook.com\/asian-thanksgiving-recipes\/\">Asian Thanksgiving recipes<\/a> for a fresh and flavorful side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ingredients\">Ingredients<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You only need six ingredients to make green beans with peanut sauce:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Green beans<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Unsweetened natural peanut butter:<\/strong> It creates the nutty base. You can use sweetened peanut butter instead, but the sauce will be less nutty.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Light soy sauce: <\/strong>You can use regular soy sauce as well.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Garlic:<\/strong> Adds a nice punch to the sauce.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Chili crisp: <\/strong>The key ingredient to enhance the dish. You can use chili oil (the kind that comes with chili flakes) as well. In authentic Chinese cooking, the base of the sauce is often made with Chinese sesame paste, or \u829d\u9ebb\u9171 (zhi ma jiang). It\u2019s similar to tahini, but has a dark brown color and a toasty aroma. It\u2019s a common ingredient in <a href=\"https:\/\/omnivorescookbook.com\/recipes\/dan-dan-noodles\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dan Dan Noodles<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/omnivorescookbook.com\/recipes\/chicken-noodle-salad-with-garlicky-nutty-and-spciy-sauce\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chicken noodle salad<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When making nutty sauce, natural peanut butter is a great replacement if you can\u2019t find Chinese sesame paste. You should taste a green bean here and there during blanching, so you can remove the beans as soon as they\u2019re fully cooked. Depending on the green beans, for example, young green beans that are in season, might require a slightly different cooking time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mix the nutty sauce together, pour it onto the green beans, then top with chili crisp.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s it! In China, we like to plate the green beans first, then add the sauce on top for a nice presentation. You will need to mix the dish a bit before eating it.
