It only uses four ingredients and comes together quickly, making it perfect for a simple homemade meal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This dish uses a simple technique called \u201cqiang guo\u201d (\u709d\u9505), which means to add pungent spices and herbs to hot oil before cooking, to infuse the oil with a nice aroma. It\u2019s commonly used in almost all the <a href=\"https:\/\/omnivorescookbook.com\/recipe-type\/stir-frying\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Chinese stir fried dishes<\/a>. Instead of using the usual aromatics to infuse oil, this dish uses dried chili pepper and Sichuan peppercorn to create a smoky and slightly spicy oil. With a simple splash of soy sauce, it draws the sweetness of the okra and makes the dish very fragrant. This ensures the okra will cook through inside and yields a better texture. Drain then rinse with cold water to stop the cooking. Then slice them on the bias into bite-size pieces.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cook Sichuan peppercorns in the oil until the color has darkened.
